Assessment of patient satisfaction with nursing services provided in general wards of university hospitals in Bushehr 2012.

Abstract Introduction : Patient satisfaction with health care reflects organizational performance of a hospital. Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care, and coordination with other hospital services isorganized. Objective : The aim of this study was to determine patient satisfaction with nursing care provided in general wardsofuniversityhospitals in Bushehr 2012. Method : A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in hospitals of Bushehr in August and September2012. It was estimated that a sample size of 282 patients were hospitalized at least for the past 24 hours in the departments of surgery or gynecology. Convenience sampling was carried out according to the number of available bedsusing quotas. Patient satisfaction questionnaire which its validity and reliability had been confirmed, was used. Data were analyzed using SPSS V.18 and descriptive statistics(frequency, mean, standard deviation, chi-square). Results : Results showed that 1/1 % (3persons) patientshad complete satisfaction with nursing services, 2/14 %(40 persons) had Medium satisfaction and 4/84 %(238persons) were dissatisfied. Among the demographicvariables, only education level was significantly related to patient satisfaction (p= 0/035). Illiterate people had thelowest levels of satisfaction and those witha diploma or higher education showed the highest levels of satisfaction. Conclusion : the satisfaction ratewaslower than the expected . Due to theimportanceofnurses'skills,the necessity of strengtheningtraining,communicating and caring skills to enhancepatientsatisfactionisadvisable . |
