The Relationship between Spiritual Intelligence and Resiliency of Patients Suffering from Cancer in South Khorasan State

  Introduction : Cancer is one of the most stressful coincidences in human life. It causes severe shock and strike in patients. Resilience is among factors helping people encountering stressful and difficult situation. It prevents them against life difficulties and mental disorders.

  Objective : The present study aims at identifying the relationship between spiritual intelligence and resiliency of patients suffering from cancer in south khorasan state in 2014.

  Method : This study is cross-sectional carried on 100 cancer patients referring to cancer treatment clinic of Birjand. Sampling was done randomly. Data were collected through Badi’s spiritual intelligence questionnaire and Freiberg’s resilience questionnaire. They were then analyzed in SPSS 16 through statistical methods of Pearson correlation, Variance analysis, and T-test in significance level of p= 0.05.

  Results : As indicated by the results of the study, there is a significant correlation between spiritual intelligence and general resiliency of patients (r=0.66 & p=0.001). Moreover, there was a significant correlation between spiritual intelligence and resilience dimensions including personality, spiritual, social, family cohesion, and character structure with correlational coefficient of 0.68, 065, 0.40, 0.41, and 0.52, respectively.

  Conclusion : The present study showed that, in study cancer patients, there is a direct and significant relationship between spiritual intelligence and the level of resilience. Therefore, according to the obtained results of the present study, it is concluded that resilience and meaningfulness are supposed to be the focus of any preventive, educational, and personal growth interventions, especially in cancer patients.
