The comparison of brain, behavior system, and sensation seeking between cigarette and hookah abuser and non-abuser women (A case controlled study in Tehran)

Introduction: Nowadays, the use of tobacco (cigarette and hookah) is an extremely hazardous to health and widely using. In addition, the personality characteristics affect the tendency of individual to use the tobacco.

Objective: the aim of current study is to compare brain, behavior system, and sensation seeking among cigarette and hookah abuser and non-abuser women.

Method: This study is a descriptive comparative research. The 160 women including 80 cigarettes and hookah abuser women and 80 non-abuser women were chosen through sampling method in Tehran in 2015. The measuring instruments are Zuckerman's trait sensation-seeking scale and Gray-Wilson Personality Questionnaire (GWPQ). Data was analyzed utilizing t independent.

Results: The results showed that there is the significant difference between behavior inhibition system (t= -7.16, p=0.0001), behavior activation system (t= 3.74, p=0.0001) and brain and behavior system (t=-2.0, p=0.0001) between substance abuser and non-substance abuser women (p<0.001). Additionally, the significant difference was observed between sensation seeking (t=4.54, p= 0.0001) between these two groups (p<0.001).

Conclusion: These findings emphasized that tobacco’s user women had higher sensation seeking and behavior activation system than other group. Hence, it should be consider these factors in process of therapeutic prevention intervention in tobacco and hookah abuser women.
